For those of you who like dancing to live bands, there is the concert of Tuba Tango this Thursday at the Patio de Tango. This is an rather unusual tango orchestra, with bandoneon, clarinet, guitar and, obviously, a tuba. They’ve existed, with changing musicians, since 1967. Catch them on their European tour!

La Tubatango is a unique tango group with more than 40 years of history having seen 3 generations of musicians passing through its lineup. And it is one of the few existing formations performing authentic tango music in the style of "la guardia vieja" used widely by the dancers of canyengue. In the '60 and '70 a very atypical formation recorded a significant number of tangos. This formation was named Los Tubatango. Today, in remembering and homage to this so curious formation, which had its success and which does not cease interesting curious and collectors, four musicians decided to create a ose formation. It will be not named Los Tubatango but La Tubatango. The selected tangos are creations from Laurenz, Mendizabal, Francisco Canaro and other old glories.

La Tubatango’s objective is to revive the festive spirit of the tango from the 1900s a period when any celebration would have the citizens of Buenos Aires go out and walk down the streets following the bands, ‘fanfarrias’ and carnival groups. That Buenos Aires comes back from the past through the mellow and delightful sounds of La Tubatango, with songs which evoke yesterday’s unforgettable tango.

The history of Tubatango begins on a July night of the distant 1967, when the bandoneonist Guillermo Inchausty created a very peculiar tango group after watching a show at Teatro Nacional which led him to the conclusion that ‘easy things well carried out’ should be a great success. That's how La Tubatango was born, the only group in the history of tango that uses tuba as its emblematic instrument.

The first two generations of La Tubatango, directed by Guillermo Inchausty, were characterized by the following instrumentation: tuba, bandoneón, flute and guitar. They recorded 10 LPs with the record company Music Hall between 1967 and 1982. Now, in the third generation of the group, directed by the guitarist and arranger Lucas Kohan, the clarinet replaces the flute thus creating a variation on the group’s famous sound. In this new formation the group has recorded 2 CDs with the newest one "Zorro Gris" having come out in the beginning of 2011.

Nowadays La Tubatango is well known by dancers and tango lovers all over the world. Being one of the most popular tango groups in Argentina, they are so busy playing in the milongas of Buenos Aires that they hardly have the time to travel out of the country. That is why they current European tour is an unique opportunity for tango lovers in selected cities, including Sofia, to see them live! Don't miss this chance!
