Long queues force voters to forfeit their voting rights

Long queues of voters winded yesterday afternoon before the section election commissions across the country. The Central Election Commission (CEC) extended the polling day by an hour - until 20:00, because of the large number of citizens wishing to exercise their voting rights. “The decision was taken because of the increased voter turnout and the complaints and signals for a large number of people waiting outside the polling premises, which were likely not to be able to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed voting rights,” explained officials from the CEC. They foresaw the possibility for the voting to continue up to 21:00 at particular places.

The vote for Head of State and local executive power was slow and boring because of the sluggish and complicated procedure. People had to sign on two lists - once for President and then for local authorities. In the darkroom, they had to fill in three ballots - one for President, one for municipal councillors and one for Mayor of the settlement. The slow work of the employees in some sectional electoral commissions caused further delay.
