Coalition for Bulgaria threatens to cassate the elections

There are grounds for cassation of the elections, reckoned yesterday in Parliament MPs from Coalition for Bulgaria. According to the left-wing party, such unfair and manipulated elections have not been held for 22 years. "Therefore, CB will oppose the total chaos and manipulated results wherever there are grounds for such actions, including filing cassation claims," said Maya Manolova on behalf of the leftist parliamentary group. Her statement was followed by the declarations of all parliamentary groups except the independent MPs.

According to the Socialists, these have been the most ill-organised and poorly conducted elections since 1990. Manolova accused Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria for the imposition of poorly-drafted Election Code, as well as of intentional violations, bought votes, and deliberately created chaos. As a result, some 1,000 complaints were filed, including about 150 ones lodged with the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC).

"It cannot be denied that these have been the most poorly organised elections since 1990," indicated Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary group of Movement for Rights and Freedoms Lyutvi Mestan. He pointed out that according to the MRF, GERB manupulated the elections, while the executive power committed grave crimes, thus depriving of voting rights thousands of Bulgarian citizens who were meeting the requirements for receiving permanent residence permits necessary for participation in the elections.

MRF rises the question of the responsibility of the GERB government and in particular the responsibility of the Minister of Interior, stated Mestan. He urged the Parliament to set up a new committee for investigating the unlawful actions of the Interior Ministry relating to the electoral process.

The leader of Ataka party, Volen Siderov claimed that his parliamentary group confirmed the findings in the declarations of the BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) and the MRF for drastic violations. Standing at the parliamentary rostrum, he showed pictures of unduly torn sacks with falling ballot papers. If these elections aren't inspected then we will have no grounds to recognise the current GERB government, reckoned Siderov.
