District Heating Company Sofia to be inspected because of the fire in its TPP

“The District Heating Company (DHC) Sofia will be inspected because of the power station which caught fire and caused a large part of the city to remain without electricity and heating on Wednesday evening,” said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova yesterday. Hours after the accident, she was on the site of the old Thermoelectric Power Plant (TPP), owned by DHC Sofia. This is another accident in the company which left a large part of its subscribers without heating.
“In such situations, it is important to react appropriately and to provide electricity and heating energy to the people. The competent authorities will investigate the reasons for the failure. These are very serious accidents which require adequate steps,” explained Fandakova.
In the late afternoon, officials from the heating company announced that they were able to restore the heat supply to all subscribers.

Four substations of the CEZ company were affected by the accident and 14 districts in the capital remained without electricity. Company officials explained that they had restored the electricity supply to 10 of the districts within 11 minutes and to the remaining 4 - within two hours. “Throughout the day, the energy system of Sofia worked in emergency mode and this will continue until the heating company tackles the problem,” explained for BNR Bozidar Gatev, Director of Operation and Maintenance at CEZ.
