Electricity consumption increases by 5% this year

“Gross electricity production has increased by 5% this year and it is expected to reach 39,500 GWh by 31 December,” announced officials from the Electricity System Operator (ESO) yesterday. The peak in electricity consumption (6,236 MW) in recent days was reported on 23 December at 19 pm. On Christmas Eve, the maximum consumption was 6,203 MW, and on Christmas it reached 5,806 MW. “A total of 120,900 MWh of electricity was generated that day,” stated officials from the ESO. In 2010, on Christmas the dispatchers reported a maximum consumption of 4,844 MW. The experts from ESO expect that electricity consumption will reach 6,150 MW today.

In the last few days, electricity was exported to Turkey, Serbia and Macedonia, according to data of the ESO. Exports to Ankara are in the range between 350 - 420 MW, depending on the day hour, and those for Belgrade – between 250 -350 MW. Exported electricity for Macedonia is between 280 - 460 MW. The imports of electricity from Romania stand at 66 - 435 MW. Bulgaria has not provided electricity to Greece recently, shows the ESO data further.
