EU member - states to determine themselves their priorities for agriculture financing as of 2014

”As of January 1, 2014, the axes for agriculture financing will be cancelled and all EU member-states will determine themselves the priorities for rural development in order for the European financial resources to be focused there,” announced MEP Maria Nedelcheva during a meeting between Bulgarian MEPs and the parliamentary Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds.

Therefore, the position of Bulgaria in the discussions on the Common Agricultural Policy over the next programming period, from 2014 to 2020, will be for flexible financing under the Rural Development Operational Programme(OP). At present, there are measures with unspent money under this OP, and other items where the resources were absorbed long ago. So, as of the beginning of 2014, countries will be able to transfer funds from one measure to another in order to ensure better and faster absorption of the money for agricultural funding.

In the next programming period, the money from the fund for fisheries will also be restructured and focused primarily on small and medium-sized businesses. “We will organise a series of seminars with the branch organisations in order to generate new ideas,” promised MEP Iliana Yotova.
