Monica Yosifova: The attack against me is political

“I am not involved in any way in the corruption scandal in Austria. The attack against me is political and the only reason is that I live with Sergei Stanishev,” said yesterday the owner of the Active Group PR agency, Monica Yosifova. She gave a press conference in response to the claims on the part of Ministers and MPs from GERB that she is connected with the Austrian lobbyist Peter Hoheger, who is being investigated for corruption. She has also been accused of benefiting from a contract concluded between the previous Government and a company of Hoheger.

"Hoheger was involved in political corruption. I'm Monica Yosifova and I can not be held responsible for his actions in Austria," said Yosifova and added that she would submit to the MPs in Parliament the contracts between her company and the Austrian Hoheger agency. The first contract was signed in 2006 for the amount of € 239,000, while the second one was concluded in 2008 and was for € 143,488. In both cases, Active Group was a subcontractor of the Hoheger agency.

"I will file a claim against anyone who implicates me in a corruption scandal in Austria," said Yosifova. Asked to mention certain names, she pointed to Ministers Miroslav Naidenov and Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

The owner of Active Group emphasised that her company was a PR agency, not a lobbying company, and had worked with three Governments so far – the Cabinets of Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha, of Sergei Stanishev and of Borissov. According to her, Active Group “works on a professional level for the good image of Bulgaria abroad." She said that her activity had not started with Stanishev and would not end with his government. Yosifova showed trade agreements and tax returns, which evidence that since 2009 she has paid taxes amounting to BGN 1.73 mln.
