We absorbed some BGN 32mln out of the subsidy of BGN 113 mln for wine industry

“In the period 2009 – 2013, a total of BGN 113 mln have been allocated under a European programme aimed at promoting our wine producing sector. Out of this amount, some BGN 32 mln have been absorbed so far,” stated Minister for EU Funds Management, Tomislav Donchev, at the opening of the Winery 2012 International Exhibition at the Plovdiv Fair.

About 200 companies, from 17 leading wine producing countries, participated in the exhibition in Plovdiv. "Almost half of the presented Bulgarian wines were granted an assessment of above 85 points, ie they are worth to receive a gold medal," said Plamen Mollov, Chairman of the National Vine and Wine Chamber.

“The EU adopted for the first time a programme for promotin Bulgarian wines in China, worth € 3 mln,” said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Tsvetan Dimitrov.

“This year, there was a precedent - during the grape harvest in 2011 our white grapes were purchased directly by Italian producers,” said Krasimir Koev Director of the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine. According to him, the foreign companies identified that the price/ quality ratio of the Bulgarian white grapes was the best and most affordable in Europe. This should be a signal for our producers- there must be new plantings of white grape varieties and preliminary agreements on the 2012 harvest should be signed at least half a year in advance. Koev revealed that out of the 161,500 tons, which were purchased by our processing plants, some 10,000 tons of white grapes were exported abroad. At present, they have left about 10% of their white grapes.
