Delian Dobrev: We expect some 6-8% growth in the tourism sector

“We expect the number of tourists to our country to increase by 6-8% this year,” Delian Dobrev, Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, said in Veliko Tarnovo. According to the Chairman of the Bulgarian Tourist Chamber Prof. Tzvetan Tonchev, this growth will amount to around €3 bn. Minister Dobrev and his deputy in charge of tourism Ivo Marinov attended the international tourism exhibition “Cultural Tourism - Veliko Tarnovo 2012 in Bulgaria’s old capital. Dobrev pointed out that the number of Russian tourists were expected to increase by some 20% this summer and one of the reasons for this is the opportunity for the people holding Schengen visas to enter Bulgaria without national visas. The tourism industry accounts for 15% of GDP. The positive image of Bulgaria has been promoted by the fact that our country won the prestigious second place among the cultural tourism destinations in Europe for its new Wonders of Bulgaria tour itinerary in the ranking of National Geographic Traveler.
