Rumen Ovcharov: It is no longer time for a change of the BSP leadership

“The time to change the BSP leadership is now passed. Sergei Stanishev is not indispensable, but every change has its time, place and form in which it occurs," said Rumen Ovcharov, MP from Coalition for Bulgaria on the bTV television yesterday.
He believes that the right time for change was at the Congress of the socialists after the elections in 2009. According to Ovcharov, " in every European state, it is normal for the leader to step down when he has lost the elections, providing opportunities for changes in the party, amending the party's image in the society and enabling the party to take a new way of further success."

The newly elected Chairwoman of the BSP’s Control Committee, Maya Manolova also commented on the leaders’ competition that failed to occur at the congress. “We were too occupied with ourselves in the recent months”, self-critically recognised Manolova. She saw in all that struggles something positive as well - “BSP awoke by a shock from inside”. Manolova herself renounced to participate in the battle for the leadership position, because she thought that her efforts would not look serious, given that there were such outstanding candidates for the position as Stanishev and Parvanov.

“As Chairwoman of the Control Committee, my task is to avoid that the heated quarrels would weaken BSP, “ stated Manolova. She supposed that there would be future attempts for reprisals against those who supported “the other team”, and ensured that the Control Committee would ensure justice and would not allow revenge.
