Podkrepa demands the resignation of Simeon Djankov

The Podkrepa Labour Confederation is calling for the resignation of Finance Minister Simeon Djankov, a statement of the union circulated to the media informed. The reason is the government's decision to introduce a 10% tax on interest rates on the bank deposits of citizens. According to Podkrepa, the Finance Minister "is primarily to blame for the plight of the economy and of the country, as well as for the misery of the Bulgarian citizens over the past few years." On Sunday, the syndicate’s leader Konstantin Trenchev warned that approaching the court is also being considered.

"Simeon Djankov has detonated the social dialogue again, grossly violating the provisions of the Labour Code and the Rules for the Organisation and Procedures of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation, chaired by Djankov by law. According to Art. 2 of the Labour Code, the state has to regulate labour relations and the ones directly associated with them, insurance relations and issues of living standards through consultations and a dialogue with the employees, employers and their organisations in a spirit of cooperation, mutual concessions and respect of the interests of each party. Grossly violating this spirit of cooperation and collegiality, the agenda for the meeting of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation on October 9 this year did not include, nor did it discuss the issues of the 10% tax on interest rates of citizens' bank deposits and the draft budget of the National Health Insurance Fund for 2013, which were literally implemented the very next day by Mr. Djankov and adopted by the government," read Podkrepa's declaration.

"We are also declaring our determination, after consultations with the other social partners, to approach the Supreme Administrative Court in order to annul the acts of the Council of Ministers from October 10, via which these issues were adopted, because they do not meet the mandatory requirements of the Labour Code for a preliminary social dialogue," added the syndicate.
