Bread prices not expected to increase

“There has been no upward trend in bread prices as of to date,” Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov said during the session of the Consultative Grains Council, held at the Ministry. Data of the Sofia Commodity Exchange also shows that, since the beginning of December, the market in Europe has stabilised after the collapse of prices across the ocean stopped the upward price trend on the European grain market, read the statement said the Agriculture Ministry.

The National Grain Service reported that, currently, there are nearly 5,000,000 tonnes of grain that are sufficient for both domestic consumption and export. The quantity of wheat is 2,000,000 tonnes and the necessary amount of grain for consumption until the next harvest is 1,000,000 tonnes. There are also 216,000 tonnes of barley, 1,400,000 tonnes of corn and 1,000,000 tonnes of sunflower. The data for the areas sown under wheat this autumn shows that these are 6.7% more than last year, exceeding 11,000,000 dca. Barley is also more – grown on 1,810,000 dca and only rapeseed is 28% less – 1,780,000 dca. Despite the dry weather at the time of sowing, the condition of the crops is good and the Grains Council members expect their successful wintering.
