Minister Delian Dobrev: We expect more British and Russian tourists in the winter season

“The number of tourists from Russia and the UK – which are important markets for Bulgaria – is expected to increase this winter season,” Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delian Dobrev told BTA on Monday. He added that bookings at travel agents showed an increase in the number of Russian tourists by some 9%, but the percentage could be higher because of the trend of making last minute bookings.

The Minister added that, according to the bookings made and the planned charter flights at the airports in Sofia and Plovdiv, the holidays of British tourists in Bulgaria will register some 5% increase.

The number of visitors from Poland and Denmark will also go up. Bulgaria is a traditionally attractive winter destination for Serbia, Macedonia, Romania and Turkey.

“Bulgaria continues to successfully affirm itself on the international map of ski destinations. A recent survey of consumer centres in 27 European and North American ski resorts assigns Bansko a foremost position as the cheapest place for winter recreation. This data allows us to have more optimistic expectations for the coming winter season,” stated Dobrev.

“Bulgaria will continue to be an attractive destination for foreign tourists during the summer season as well, offering quality and variety of tourist services and high satisfaction with the stay of vacationers,” added Minister Dobrev.
