The new exhibition devoted to Contemporary American Post-war Art  includes such major names such as: Andy Warhol, William de Kuning, Jasper Johns, Donald Saltan, Jim Dine, Robert Longo, Keith Haring. Among them will be presented paintings and graphic works of contemporary artists who are also part of the development of American art as Slonam Hunt, topical pop art painter - Robert Mars, famous worldwide Bulgarian avant-garde artist Christo Javacheff - Christo and new works of Cherkelov Houben, who lives and works in New York and last but not least the famous Belgian artist Don Ken, whose work is also linked to American pop art.

For opening the organizers have invited a special guest - the artist Robert Mars, became widely known for his collages inspired by the "Golden Era" of American culture from the 50's and 60's. Here he will present some of their latest works. For his first visit to Sofia artist prepares a special series of mini collages with Bulgarian motifs, which can be viewed and purchased in the gallery. Mars will also participate in an outdoor lesson on contemporary American art in the educational program of the gallery.
 




"My work is a chronicle of Americana" - recognizes for himself Robert Mars. He is determined to capture the independent aesthetic of the not-so-distant past that has been replaced by homogenized corporate culture and standardized cityscapes. Industrial design, graphic design, architecture, vintage neon and mid-century icons all render important roles in his work.

Mars`s paintings employ layers of color, subtly collaged printed matter from the 1950's and 1960's, and stark, black imagery. Remote, indistinct landscapes capture the once poetic, and now nearly lost highway strips of the American past. Formerly the promise of hope and prosperity; these icons are now a sign of desperation and ruin.

His works are exhibited in galleries in Tokyo, Munich, Portland, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Aspen, Vancouver, Melbourne, Boston, London and Atlanta.
