Kristian Vigenin MEP Complains of Holdup of Two Bulgarians from Serbia at Brussels Airport

Kristian Vigenin MEP will notify the Belgian Interior Ministry
and European Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Stefan Fule about
a case in which two ethnic Bulgarians from Serbia were held up
by police at Brussels South Charleroi Airport on Tuesday,
Vigenin's press office says.

The two were Vigenin's guests and were to attend a conference in
the European Parliament organized by the Bulgarian MEP. They
were held up at the airport for more than eight ours because
they did not have the money required in order to be allowed to
stay in Belgium.

Even after an assistant to Vigenin produced appropriate papers
showing that the lawmaker would cover the costs of the two men's
stay in Brussels, the police released only one of them, Mitra
Simeonov. The other one, Milan Milanov, was told he would be
deported within 24 hours. Milanov was unable to get through
passport control because he did not have enough cash on him,
although he had a two-way ticket and all necessary documents.

According to Vigenin, these actions were offensive to the
European Parliament and degrading to his guest. "I have the
feeling that this situation caters to the idea of reinstating
visas for Serbian travellers, which is ever more frequently
discussed," he says.
