International airlines reported a growth of 4.4% of transported passengers in June 2011, year-on-year, showed the data of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). According to organisation's statistics, on an annual basis, this was an approximately 10% increase in passenger flow. "The figures are good, showing a growth in demand but the increase is less than the results achieved immediately after the recession," commented experts.

This was caused by the delayed recovery and higher costs of airlines due to expensive fuels and the hike in the airport charges in some countries, read the statement of the International Association. European airlines reported an increase of 8.9 % last month over the same period last year, which indicated that they are restoring twice faster, compared to international carriers. Seat occupation reached 80.6%, which means that 4 out of 5 airline seats were occupied. "This is evidence of an increasing efficiency in the operation of the aircraft which, in turn, can lead to a lower cost of services," explained branch representatives.

However, the cargo trend in terms of the airlines is negative. The volume of freight transported in June 2011 was 3% lower than in June 2010, showed IATA statistics. According to the data, in May, air cargo shipments reached their peak after the recession.

"The number of passengers and the volume of cargo dropped by about 1%, compared to May 2010 which was the peak of the crisis," said Tony Tyler, IATA Director General.

According to the experts, there might be a reduction of the expected profits of companies in the sector from $8.8 bn down to $4.4 bn.
