Some BGN 5.6 mln of EU funds allocated for the transformation of the Sofia Central Bath into a museum

“Some BGN 5.6 mln under the Operational Programme Regional Development will be allocated for the transformation of the Central Mineral Bath in Sofia into a Museum,“ announced Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Irina Savina, yesterday for BTA. The co-financing by the municipality amounts to BGN 328,000. The project was approved under the item "Support for the Development of Natural, Cultural and Historic Attractions." The building of the Sofia Central Bath was declared an architectural monument of national importance in State Gazette in 1998. After completion of its restoration and transformation into a Museum of Sofia, the capital will have its first museum for nearly half a century.

"The constant exposition of the Museum of Sofia will be attractive and interesting for people of all ages and social status, as the most beautiful and valuable exhibits of the museum will be displayed in it. These are stored now in various places in the city," said Savina.

The future Museum of Sofia has four levels. There will be halls for representative purposes. The central part will comprise a lobby, exhibition halls and a storage. In the southern wing, there will be an administrative part and restoration workshops, and in the attic - a memorial exhibition hall of the creators of the building – architect Petko Momchilov and architect Friedrich Gruenanger. Exhibition halls and tourist information centre will be built in the internal courtyards as well.
