BULSAR rescue workders awarded for the successful operation near Sozopol

Executive Agency Maritime Administration (EAMA) awarded volunteers from the BULSAR (Bulgarian Black Sea Search and Rescue) NGO, who earlier this month rescued 18 people near the town of Sozopol. "This is the first time that the Agency is giving such award," said Captain Sergei Tsarnakliyski, Executive Director of EAMA for Klassa . "I am extremely thankful to the volunteer rescuers for the professional skills, which they demonstrated in the joint operation," he added.

"A joint training programme for volunteer rescue structures, EAMA and the maritime police, is underway," added also Tsarnakliyski. According to him, Captain Gerchev has been invited to carry out the training. The first course is scheduled for early September and the next ones will take place twice a month from then on.

As of next year, the agency should ensure financing for improving the necessary equipment for sea rescue operations. According to the plans, the volunteer rescuers should be equipped with new costumes, insured, and additional equipment should be purchased.

"The cooperation between BULSAR and maritime administration structures is very good," Mihail Zaimov from BULSAR told Klassa daily. According to him, the situation is stable, but better communication is needed and the responsibilities of various units in sea territories should be clarified. BULSAR is preparing the establishment of two teams in Sozopol, each of at least four members. However, the interest towards involvement in such organisations is not very great, explained Zaimov. He added that people could be at ease because there are those who take care of them.
