Brussels to grant BGN 15-20 mln for flood damage recovery

“The European Commission in Brussels gave the green light to Bulgaria to use BGN 15-20 mln under Operational Programme Rural Development for recovery of the damages caused by the flood in the village of Bisser,” PM Boyko Borissov announced today in the village where he attended the burial service for the four victims of the flood, together with Interior Minister and Deputy PM Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov, Social Minister Totyu Mladenov, MPs and others.

“The most important thing now is to prepare quickly projects for the recovery of the village. This should start today,” said Borissov, promising to the people that the State will restore the village so that its residents can remain and live in it.

The money from OP Rural Development will be used to build new houses for those who remain homeless, repair the damaged houses and the local school, which needs renovation. Some of the EU funds will be used for repairing the church in the flooded village.

PM Borissov made sure on the spot that the compensations to the flood-stricken people are already being paid. Today, relatives of the victims received compensations of BGN 10,000. The owners of drowned animals are also getting their compensations. The money is being paid in cash in order to avoid the bureaucratic procedures of bank transfers. “The compensations for livestock are calculated on the basis of market prices,” specified Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov.

Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov announced that mobile groups of the Interior Ministry will visit the village to issue new documents to the people who have lost or damaged their documents during the disaster. “The new documents will be free of charge,” assured Tsvetanov.
