According to Trend News Agency, Bulgaria will receive gas from Turkey and Azerbaijan in case of crisis

Bulgaria will build a section of the Azerbaijan-Turkey gas pipeline in order to be able to purchase fuel in case of crisis. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan achieved an agreement on this issue during the visit of Borissov to Ankara, posted the Azerbaijani Trend News Agency, quoted by Focus News.

About 1 bn cu m of gas per annum is expected to be delivered to Bulgaria from Turkey. Azerbaijan and Turkey are now considering the building of the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP), with a capacity of 16 bn cu m of gas per annum. The construction of the interconnector link with Turkey may start next year. Newly appointed Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delian Dobrev signed the document, aimed at accelerating the project, in the presence of the Prime Ministers of both countries - Boyko Borissov and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“The project has been debated for years, but now its realization is possible thanks to the political will of the Prime Minister of Turkey,” explained Borissov.

“Next year, the construction of the Gorna Arda Hydropower Cascade will be launched. It is expected to reduce the floods in the European part of Turkey,” said the Bulgarian Prime Minister. During the meeting, Erdogan demanded that Bulgaria also took appropriate measures for ensuring flood control on the rivers of Maritza and Tundzha.

Bulgaria assumed the commitment to address the problem with the visas for Turkish businessmen and tourists. “Laboratory for vegetables and food control will be built on the Bulgarian-Turkish border,” said Borissov. It was also decided that Bulgaria and Turkey will set up a Cooperation Council at a high level. A total of 17  documents on bilateral cooperation were signed during the official visit.
