Qatar may invest in the construction of the transport link Ruse - Istanbul

Qatar considers Bulgaria as an important transit country for trading between the East and West and, therefore, we express an interest in the construction of the transport link Ruse – Turkey, stated Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Doctor Khalid al-Atiya, who visited our country last week. Dr. Al-Atiya stressed that this investment will exceed the already planned €100 mln funding in our country.

During the visit of the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani to Bulgaria, which is expected until the end of May, an agreement for investments of €100 mln will be signed. Three delegations from Qatar will prepare the visit of the Qatari PM. Besides the visit of the Qatari Foreign Minister, a second delegation is expected to arrive from Qatar Holding LLC, while within the month, a third delegation will visit Bulgaria. We have reviewed all agreements, which we want to sign. It comes down to inking documents of mutual benefit for both Bulgaria and Qatar, stated Dr. Khaled al-Atiya. On his part, the Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov stated that at least five agreements have been drawn up in order to be signed during the visit of the Qatari PM.

The first framework agreement refers to the establishment of a mechanism for investing $100 mln in projects in various fields. The second agreement is intended for the health sector, while the third relates to the agricultural sector. It should provide a basis for investment. The fourth framework agreement refers to the cultural sector. It is aimed at familiarising the Qatari representatives with the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage. The fifth agreement is a memorandum for the development of the mining industry. Mladenov hopes that an agreement in the military-technical sector will be drawn up. In the Foreign Ministry, we have a map with more infrastructure projects than ever before in the department's history. Some of these projects are related to the infrastructure, as well as to the Balchik Airport, but I would not consider them in a package. For me, it is important to finalise the discussions on the mechanism for investments, commented Nikolay Mladenov.
