Some 721 people enlist in Kuneva’s party

Exactly 721 people gathered in Sofia’s National Palace of Culture to set up the new party Bulgaria for Citizens Movement, headed by Meglena Kuneva, whose campaign in the 2011 presidential elections won 14% of the votes, or 470,000. Kuneva announced that the party will participate independently in the upcoming general elections. “The reason I’m here is because I have trust in you,” Kuneva addressed the audience and added that while it isn’t an easy project, there is need for putting the national political scene in order. “At this particular time, we need public control to ensure rule of law. I hope to find forms of political innovation, where citizens and the state are in collaboration. We have to do more for the government, which in turn has the power to arm society with tools to build itself further. This will be the Bulgaria for Citizens Movement’s main goal,” Kuneva added and said the party’s ambition is to become the leading political force in the country. She is confident that the party will have all necessary expertise to “rule effectively, and with competence and transparency”. Kuneva was quick to point out that she has no intention of being the only leader in the movement's existence.
