Some 112 new cases of HIV established in 2012

Men and young people are the hardest affected groups in newly registered cases of HIV, according to data from the Ministry of Health as of the end of September. Some 112 new cases of the deadly virus infection have been reported since the start of the year. Sources at the National Programme on Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS said that a total of 1,585 people are known to carry the HIV virus.

Of the people whose condition has been identified this year, 88 are men and 24 are women. More than half of the new HIV carriers are young individuals, 45% of whom are between the age of 18 and 29. Five minors under the age of 15 also entered the grim statistics. Sofia is the largest source of new HIV cases - 54, followed by the areas of Plovdiv (13), Pazardzhik (7) and Varna (5).
