Sofia Airport reports growth of passengers and cargo for October

In October 2012, Sofia Airport serviced a total of 285,216 arriving and departing passengers, 1,400 more than in the same month last year. The highest growth in the number of transported passengers was registered by the airlines NIKI (Air Berlin), Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Olympic Air, Air France, Aeroflot and Bulgaria Air.

A total of 16,344 passengers flew on domestic routes, 34% more than in the same period of 2011 (12,174) when there were no flights to Varna due to the repair of Varna Airport’s runway. The number of passengers transported on regular international routes remained unchanged from 2011 – 262,424. A smaller number of passengers flew on charter flights – 5,226, or around 1,500 less than in October 2011.

Cargo flights reported some 10% increase, compared to last October and flights on domestic routes registered a 29% growth. In October 2012, Sofia Airport handled 1,507 tonnes of cargo and parcels, 1% more than in the same month of last year. Specialised cargo flights transported 20% more cargo than in October 2011.
