Professor Stati Statev: Putting an accent on the quality of education in the financing of universities is a step in the right direction

“Amendments to the higher education act are a step in the right direction because in the financing of the universities the accent is put on the quality of the education.”
This is what Professor Stati Statev, Rector of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), said speaking in an interview with Radio FOCUS.
In his words, the amendments should be coordinated with the labour market.
Professor Statev added that it was important to conduct a detailed analysis on what kind of personnel was needed by the business.
“The mantra that there are too many unemployed economists at the market, while there is a deficit in engineers, is not working. We should examine who is producing this unemployment and the institutions should take the needed measures to cut this practice.
Who are these unnecessary economists; who produced them? We have 51 universities in Bulgaria and 26 of them have economic departments producing economists, administrators and managers,” the rector commented further.
