CPC to exempt from fines companies that give away cartels

The Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) adopted a programme suggesting that a company which discloses its participation in a secret cartel will be exempt of paying fines or their size will be reduced, announced the antitrust authority. This will offer one more stimulus to companies to reveal their participation in other cartels which are still unknown and uninvestigated by CPC. The antitrust authority believes that the new rules will facilitate the process of inclusion and participation of companies in the programme. An opportunity has been provided for an initial and even anonymous, at this stage, contact with CPC in order to give informal guidance to businesses. After the submission of an application, a special meeting will be held between CPC and the company for specifying all the details of its participation in the programme. There will be guarantees for keeping participation in the programme confidential and for protecting the information provided.
