European Parliament votes on the resolution on Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area on June 4

The report on Bulgaria's readiness for accession to the Schengen area is very positive and full of praises for our country, announced to Klassa daily Bulgarian MPs who were in Brussels yesterday to examine the document, a day before it is officially presented to the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

"The Rapporteur Carlos Coelho shared his positive impressions of what he saw in Bulgaria, as well as of our efforts and achievements," said minutes after the meeting of our delegation with Coelho, the MP from 'Ataka' party Ventsislav Lakov, a member of the Foreign Policy and Defence Committee. According to him, the report was very positive. GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) MP, Dobroslav Dimitrov, Head of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee confirmed the same statement to Klassa daily.

GERB MEP Andrey which was of the opinion that no problems will arise during the Committee's meeting which will discuss today the possible Schengen membership of Bulgaria and Romania. The final report should be ready by May 2.

"The European Parliament will vote on June 4 its resolution on the accession of Bulgaria to the Schengen area," announced Carlos Coelho, cited by bTV.

Deputy Interior Minister, Dimitar Georgiev, reported a 100% absorption of funds under the Schengen agreement. "Within the contracted grants of €128.9 mln, a total of €11 mln were invested under the technical section of the agreement." So far, the supplied technical equipment includes three helicopters, 11 ships, including 6 river and 5 marine vessels, mobile devices, cross-country vehicles. Georgiev reminded that a centre has already been opened for temporary accommodation of foreigners in the town of Lyubimets.

A little earlier in the day in Luxembourg, where the Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov participated in the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, his counterparts from Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia congratulated him on the successful completion of the Schengen evaluation mission on Bulgaria's land border.
