Vladimir Kissyov and Georgi Kadiev - firm candidates for the Sofia Mayor position

Six months before the local elections, only two parties have announced their candidates nominated for the Mayor of Sofia position. The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) announced on Friday night that they would put forward the candidacy of Vladimir Kissyov, Head of the UDF Group in the Municipal Council and BSP – the candidacy of Municipal Councilor Georgi Kadiev.

Vladimir Kissyov confirmed for Klassa his personal readiness to run for Sofia Mayor on behalf of the Blue Coalition. For this to happen, an agreement must be achieved between the negotiating teams of the UDF and DSB (Democrats for Strong Bulgaria). Otherwise, it is likely for internal elections to take place. “We have still not discussed the proposals of our colleagues from UDF,” told Klassa the member of the negotiating team from DSB and Municipal Councilor, Vily Lilkov. He said that both options were possible. At this stage, DSB are considering three candidacies for Mayor of Sofia - of Atanas Atanasov, Head of the Metropolitan Party Organization, of Proshko Proshkov, Mayor of the district of Lozenets and of Petar Moskov.

The situation with GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) is not so clear, however, despite the positive assessments of the work of Yordanka Fandakova and the decision to support successfull mayors for a consecutive term. The reason is that many see the current Mayor of Sofia as a successful candidate for the Presidential post.

“The NMSP (National Movement for Stability and Prosperity) will participate in the mayoral elections in Sofia alone,” said the party leader Hristina Hristova. Former Minister of Education Daniel Valchev and Municipal Counselor Vladimir Karolev are considered as the probable nominations of the "yellow" party. Former Chairman of Sofia Municipal Council Vladimir Kissyov is the candidacy of the UDF.

“I'll be quite frank – this is not my year, "said Daniel Valchev for Nova TV channel. The reason for his reluctance to run for the position is that it would not be fair to Yordanka Fandakova, since he is a close friend of her.

It is clear that the leader of Ataka party, Volen Siderov will run for President, but it was still not announced whether the party would have a nomination for the position Mayor of Sofia.
