AFP: Kozloduy NPP is preparing for stress testing

Kozloduy NPP is the most inspected nuclear plant in the EU as it has been subjected to 25 inspection missions in the past 12 years, said in an interview for AFP the CEO of the NPP, Kostadin Dimitrov.
After the closing down of four old 440 MW reactors, imposed by the European Commission, now the plant is operating with two upgraded reactors of 1000 MW. Their operation has not been called into question, indicated AFP.

The Bulgarian government relies on international partners, including France's Areva, in order to extend by twenty years the operation of these. Their service life expires in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Even before the European Commission had hammered out the criteria for the stress testing of EU nuclear power plants, Kozloduy NPP started to prepare itself for the inspection. A headquarters office was set up for the inspection of all systems, including for risks of attack, fire and flood, highlighted Dimitrov.
Meanwhile, it became clear that on April 24, the 1,000 MW 5th unit of the Kozloduy NPP had been decommissioned for planned repairs which should be completed in early June.
