Vivacom to invest BGN 600 mln in fibre-optic Internet

Vivacom will invest BGN 600 mln to build infrastructure for high-speed fibre-optic Internet in Bulgaria in the next three years, the company announced. In June and July, more than 90,000 households in ten residential districts in Sofia will be able to get the Vivacom Fiber Net service. It will be initially available in the Mladost, Reduta, Slatina, Iztok, Geo Milev and Lozenets districts. Two more Bulgarian cities will have a fibre-optic Internet network by the end of the year. Full coverage of Sofia will be available at the beginning of 2012, and in 2014, fibre-optic Internet is expected to reach over 1 million households across the country.

The telecom operator specified that the new technology will provide a clearer and more reliable signal, will stabilise the network in bad weather and data will be better protected. “Our clients will have Internet even in the absence of electricity in the building,” commented Bernard Moscheni, CEO of Vivacom. The prices of the new service will be in the range of BGN 20-50 per month, depending on Internet access speed chosen by subscribers.
