CITUB demands a 10% increase in the budget salaries

The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB) will demand a 10% increase of the fund allocations for the budget salaries as of 2012, stated the Chairman of the trade union Plamen Dimitrov. He added that the syndicate will insist on wage growth in the private sector. With respect to this issue, the Social Minister, Totyu Mladenov, announced that he had not received such a proposal. "If there is such a proposal, it must be submitted to the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation at the discussions of the budget framework 2012," explained Mladenov.

The trade unions presented data showing a positive production increase in several sectors but no wage growth and no employment rate increase. Dimitrov commented that coal extraction, for example, registered a 13% growth for the first three months of this year. Unfortunately, instead of a positive employment index growth and wage increase in the sector, the number of the staff hired there dropped by 1.7%, while the average salary in the branch is 0.8% less, compared to the same period of 2010.

Dimitrov also announced that the cost of living of a four-member household in June rose by 6.8% year-on-year and reached a total of BGN 528.14. This means that at least BGN 2,013 are needed per month for a normal life. The June poverty line was BGN 198.48 - an increase of 7.2 % year-on-year. The syndicates also reported that, as of July 1, the prices of basic goods and fuels also rose. CITUB predicted that as a result the inflation rate in December will be 8-9% on an annual basis. This will inflict direct damage on the purchasing power of all Bulgarian citizens. Dimitrov was also adamant that this necessitates a mandatory increase in incomes.
