Some 2,000 pharmacies to be closed down if they fail to connect to the NRA system

About 2,000 pharmacies across the country were issued an ultimatum of about three weeks to connect their cash registers with the computer system of the National Revenues Agency in order to avoid their closing down, announced yesterday the Agency after a meeting with branch representatives.

So far, nearly 80% of all traders operating in the pharmaceutical industry have linked their cash registers to the NRA computer system. In fact, the necessary fiscal systems have been produced and are commercially available. The service companies are ready to install them before the final deadline of August 31. The amendments to Ordinance No. 4 on Sales Registration and Reporting in Commercial Outlets imposed the introduction of a deadline for the dealers of medicines and grain in order to establish a remote connection with the tax administration. Pursuant to the Ordinance, pharmaceutical retailers must be connected by the end of the month, grain traders – by the end of November this year. For all other dealers, the deadline will be extended by the end of March next year.

"I do not expect the pharmaceutical industry to create problems in the implementation of the Ordinance," commented the Director of the Tax and Social Security Control Directorate with the NRA Headquarters, Vassil Panov. He added that the number of VAT registered companies with an installed remote connection is still too small. "I advise all traders to immediately inquire with the service companies because the consequences of failure to comply with the law can be very serious," explained Panov. Nikolay Kostov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Pharmacy Owners, commented to Klassa daily that there was no real danger that pharmacies be closed down.
