Borissov promised not to sign the agreement for the shale gas

“Nothing will happen if you do not annoy me. If you continue to press me I could sign out of spite,” said yesterday Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Dobrich to citizens who protested against the idea shale gas to be extracted in north-eastern Bulgaria. He said that the posters of the people, which had been staged during the opening of a pedestrian area and a football ground in the city, complied with a party command. In early September, citizens and NGOs submitted to the Council of Ministers a statement requesting a moratorium on the extraction of shale gas in Bulgaria. They demanded as well the withdrawal of proposals for exploration or extraction of shell gas made to any company involved in this line of business and using hydro- rupture, including the nearly concluded contract with the Chevron Corporation.

Besides the pedestrian zone, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov opened yesterday a new football field in Dobrich where nearly BGN 700, 000 have been invested and which meets all the requirements of FIFA. Children and youth football teams will train on the football ground with an artificial surface.

Borissov gave the captains part of the tricolour ribbon cut and shot a few penalties, which the goalkeeper managed to save. Then, a joint photograph of the Prime Minister with the young players was taken.

Asked to comment on the veto imposed by the Netherlands on the country’s accession to the Schengen area Borissov said: "Look what beautiful football ground we have built."
