Bulgaria starts mass production of electric cars

In the spring of next year Bulgaria will be able to launch a mass production of electric cars, said Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov. This is when Litex Motors company will have a new base within its plant near the town of Lovech along with the respective technology for the production of the first series of Bulgarian electric cars. “The European Union has adopted a strategy for the development of clean vehicles and Bulgaria once again has expressed its wish to participate in the development of production of electric cars,” Traikov said. The spread of electric vehicles in cities will contribute to a clean and safe environment and this will lead to better quality of life.

“The State will build the road infrastructure to the factory for production of electric cars in Lovech, as this is an investment project of class A,” said Traikov. He again promised Government incentives for the purchase of electric cars.

A joint working group is considering measures aimed at supporting the electric car industry and the use of eco cars by the citizens. Reducing the fees for initial car registration, VAT refund after the purchase of electric cars, the introduction of preferential traffic rules and options for parking in residential areas are among the incentives offered. Which ones will finally be introduced, however, is still to be seen.
