Sofia will have charging stations for electric cars

“The first charging stations for electric cars are expected to be put into operation within 3 weeks in Sofia,” said yesterday Vessela Sharankova, General Manager of the FullCharger company. She explained that the charging stations will be installed in the central part of the capital alone and they will number about ten. They will be able to charge cars in 4 to 8 hours. At a later stage, it is expected for charging stations to be built at petrol stations, on major roads in the country as well, where cars will be charged in 20 minutes. “In Sofia, there are four electric cars registered officially and a dozen cars converted to work on electricity,” explained Sharankova. She expects the imports of eclectic cars to start increasing as of next year.

“By the end of February, the preferences for people who use these vehicles are expected to be approved,” said officials from the industrial cluster "Electric Vehicles". According to Traicho Traikov, Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, it will be good if an agreement is reached for these cars to be exempt from VAT. Traikov awarded the prize for a student project of an electric car to the Technical University in Sofia. The students will get BGN 25,000 from the FullCharger company for the implementation of their project and will participate with it in the race of the Shell Eco-marathon Europe next year.
