Projects worth over BGN 2 bn negotiated under OP Regional Development

“The funds negotiated under OP Regional Development total BGN 2.027 bn, representing 65% of its budget,” Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Liliana Pavlova announced today when signing contracts for grant aid totaling BGN 100 mln under the programme with the mayors of the 29 municipalities with approved financing of projects under the scheme called Support for the Development of Natural, Cultural and Historical Attractions. Almost BGN 574 mln, or 18% of the programme’s budget and 28% of the negotiated funds have been disbursed.

The archaeological complex of Perperikon, the Madara Horseman, the Shumen fortress, the old Bulgarian capital of Veliki Preslav, the architectural and ethnographic complex of Etara, the architectural and historical complex in the village of Bozhentsi are some of the landmark attractions in our country to be financially supported under OP Regional Development in order to increase their attractiveness.

The scheme for the development of an integrated tourist product is being implemented within the framework of Priority axis 3 - Sustainable Development of Tourism - of the programme and has a total budget of BGN 387 mln. So far, BGN 118 mln, or 30.5% of the budget has been negotiated. “By mid-2012, the managing authority plans to negotiate another BGN 200 mln for the development of natural, cultural and historical attractions,” Minister Pavlova added. Within the framework of the priority axis, a total of 123 tourist sites of natural and cultural value will be modernised with an investment of BGN 237 mln, the regional ministry explained.
