Bulgaria may fail to meet some of the green energy targets

“There are concerns as to whether Bulgaria will be able to meet all EU requirements for energy efficiency and generation of electricity from renewable sources,” Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delyan Dobrev said today. According to him, Bulgaria will hardly satisfy the criteria for producing heat energy for cooling and for the share of biofuels in the transport sector. This will be compensated by the production of more green energy in our country. “With the drafted amendments to the Renewable Energy Act the Government will introduce incentives for the purchase of energy efficient vehicles,” specified Dobrev.

The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources fund has financed 123 projects amounting to more than BGN 35 mln. “The fund extends credits for projects worth between BGN 30,000 and BGN 3 mln, resulting in at least a 50% improvement of energy efficiency,” explained the fund’s Executive Director Dimitar Dukov. Own funds for the implementation of such projects should account for 25% of their cost.

Meanwhile, experts from the UK and Germany expressed a common position that carbon dioxide quotas should be more expensive and there should be more incentives for the implementation of energy efficiency measures.
