CEZ opens its first solar park in Bulgaria

CEZ opened its first photovoltaic park in Bulgaria, announced the company. The solar power plant "Oreshets" is located in the village of Gara Oreshets, Dimovo Municipality in the Vidin district. The power unit worth €10 mln has an installed capacity of nearly 5 megawatts. According to preliminary calculations, over the next 15 years the plant will produce 5, 762 MWh green power per annum, which can provide electricity for 3, 840 households. The new plant was inaugurated by Petr Dokladal, Regional Manager for CEZ Bulgaria, the Czech Ambassador Pavel Vacek and Tsvetan Asenov, District Governor of the town of Vidin. "We chose to invest in one of the most impoverished EU regions because we believe in the potential of the local economy. We hope that other companies will follow our example," stated Dokladal.

The photovoltaic plant is located on an area of ​​100 decares. It was constructed in the place of an old wood processing factory. Besides the construction of the plant, CEZ also invested over BGN 150, 000 in the rehabilitation of the network and the existing substation in the area. The new facility will save about 6, 900 tonnes of carbon per year. This is the first CEZ investment in renewable energy sources in Bulgaria. It is implemented within the commitment, undertaken by CEZ upon the privatization of Varna TPP, to invest a total of €40 mln in green energy projects in our country.
