The exit to the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse to be expanded

The expansion of the exit to the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse has begun. Thus, the exit to the bridge on the road to Romania will be directly opened. The rehabilitation of the border checkpoint is necessary so that it meets Schengen requirements for common border checkpoints in EU member-states.

The shed in front of the old border-checkpoint and customs building, which has long been unused, will be dismantled along with the metal facilities, BGNES reported.

The aim is to avoid the turn that vehicles currently take and to open directly the exit to the bridge. Because of the turn cars and heavy trucks are currently forced to drive in a queue instead of reaching directly the bridge toll booths.
