Over BGN 60 mln to be allocated for roads to Danube Bridge 2

“The national budget will allocate over BGN 60 mln for improving the road infrastructure to and from Danube Bridge 2,” Construction Minister Liliyana Pavlova said after commissioning the rehabilitated road Vidin-Lom-Kovachitsa/Gigen. PM Borissov added that the facility will be ready this year. The new stretch is 35-km long. The existing asphalt pavement has been reinforced and a new one has been laid, road drainage has been improved, protective fencing and railing have been placed, six bridges have been rehabilitated, etc. The project is worth BGN 14.694 mln, out of which 75% has been allocated by the World Bank and the rest – from the national budget.

“Investments of over BGN 40 mln in roads, schools, kindergartens, social institutions, cultural and tourist sites in the Vidin Municipality are projected,” said Pavlova. The funds will be extended by 2014 under Operational Programme Regional Development. PM Borissov assured that the Government will assist local authorities with everything necessary for the projects to be submitted. According to him, this year, the Government will allocate funds for the repair of the church in the village of Archar. A meeting between the Prime Minister and Lozan Lozanov, Mayor of the Dimovo Municipality, is scheduled for next week. They will discuss the opportunities for financing the projects under various programmes and funds which stimulate investments and create jobs. By law, the State is not entitled to assist municipalities financially. Otherwise, Bulgaria will face sanctions by Brussels for granting State aid.
