An additional BGN 13.5 mln to be allocated to infrastructure projects in Bulgaria

At its regular session on Wednesday, the Government decided to set aside an additional BGN 13.5 mln for financing infrastructure projects in the country, out of which BGN 3.5 mln is earmarked for road III-868 Devin-Smolyan-Krichim in order to eliminate the remarks for its commissioning and ensuring the traffic safety on this road stretch.

The other BGN 10 mln is intended for repairs of road I-2 Rousse-Shumen. A total of BGN 55 mln will be necessary for the entire A-class section of the road but only BGN 10 mln can be paid until the end of 2012. Therefore, funding for the completion of the entire road should be projected in the 2013 budget. This road is a major transport link in northeastern Bulgaria. Due to the current repair of the Silistra-Shumen road, it is the preferred route from the port of Varna to Danube Bridge.

The road creates conditions for the development of production activities requiring transportation along the Rousse-Shumen-Varna axis, of new industrial and business zones and of expanding the existing ones. Access to water transport will further strengthen foreign investors’ interest in this part of the country.
