A fine of BGN 1,000 for bus drivers transporting luggage not belonging to a passenger

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, legislative amendments were considered stipulating a fine of BGN 1,000 for bus driver transporting luggage not belonging to a passenger travelling on the bus. A penalty of BGN 3,000 is projected for persons who have ordered or allowed such transportation.

These legislative changes are aimed at increasing the security of bus transportation services.

Additional security measures will be introduced at bus stations. These will be specified in an ordinance of the Minister of Transport and will include the responsibilities of carriers, drivers and owners of bus stations. A fine of BGN 1,000 is stipulated for failure to observe the security measures. A penalty of the same amount will be imposed on vehicles in bad repair or if these have not undergone an inspection. Carriers who have not organised technical inspections of their vehicles or medical examinations of the drivers before setting on the road will be subject to a fine of BGN 1,500.
