Boyko Naydenov re-elected as head of NIS

As expected, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) elected Boyko Naydenov as head of the National Investigation Service (NIS). However, a second vote was necessary because ballot-papers were replaced by an electronic system for the first time. It turned out that some members of the SJC had not understood that. During the first vote, Naydenov was supported by 25 SJC members and during the second one – by 18 SJC members, while seven voted against him and nobody abstained. The nominees for the position were two – Naydenov and Evgeni Dikov, but there was no vote for the second candidate because only one nominee can be voted “for”.

Boyko Naydenov was nominated for a second term as head of NIS by seven members of the SJC, including Prosecutor General Boris Velchev and Supreme Administrative Court Chairman Georgi Kolev. Naydenov’s current mandate expires on November 12.
