Beer consumption accounts for 32% of the domestic alcohol market

Consumption of beer in Bulgaria accounts for 32% of the local alcoholic beverages market (measured in % of pure alcohol), showed a survey of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria. Our country ranks 22 in the European Union according to this indicator. The high quality of Bulgarian beer and the portfolio of breweries which is expanding each season, offering new products and assortments, is a winning approach for overcoming the negative effects of the economic crisis.

“In the winter months, the sales of the already traditional for the season dark beer are expected to reach 10-12% and the category as a whole to report growth. The more so that consumers are already familiar with this type of beer and look for it because of its specific characteristics which make it appropriate for the wither season,” said Ivana Radomirova, Secretary General of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria.

Some 34% of consumers who drink beer at least once a week, describe beer as a product of high quality and 43% believe that moderate beer consumption is part of a healthy lifestyle and diet. Some 66% of regular beer drinkers believe that the amber drink goes well with food and is as an important element of cookery. The results show that 20% of the polled people recognise beer as a natural product, containing solely natural ingredients - malt, hops, beer yeast and water.
