Concert series "Music of America", which presents on the Bugarian concert sfage works from the classical repertoire of America, will participate in the program of exquisite European Music Festival with an extraordinary event on March 30. For the first time in Bulgaria will be played popular Violin Concerto by Erich Korngold of the most interesting and famous American violinist Glenn Dicterow.

Much admired today as a pioneer of film music, Erich Korngold (1897-1957) was a precociously talented composer of concert and chamber music, opera and stage works, as his Schauspiel Overture, written when he was only fourteen, shows. The phenomenal success of his Violin Concerto, an ultra-romantic masterpiece drawing themes from his scores for the films Another Dawn, Anthony Adverse and The Prince and the Pauper, has overshadowed much of his other music. Korngold’s violin concerto has remained popular for its expressivity, humour and robust good spirits. Thе orchestration relishes its full-blooded lyricism and the finale’s energy.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold  was a child prodigy and the son of one of the most influential critics in Vienna. With the rivalry in that musical city the music of the critic’s son was bound to be viewed harshly by those who had been hurt by the pen of the father – the remark “More Korn than Gold” is, even now, still thrown at his reputation. He did have a remarkable facility in writing a “good tune” – which proved so useful when he settled in Hollywood, after fleeing Nazi-Germany, where he produced many memorable film scores.

Violinist Glenn Dicterow has established himself worldwide as one of the most prominent American concert artists of his generation. At the moment Dicterow is a New York Philharmonic Concertmaster; Faculty, Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music. Winner: the Young Musicians Foundation Award and Coleman Award (Los Angeles), The Julia Klumpke Award (San Francisco), and the Bronze Medal in the International Tchaikovsky Competition (1970). Graduate of The Juilliard School. Studied with Ivan Galamian, Erno Neufeld, Eudice Shapiro, Naoum Blinder, Manuel Compinsky, Jascha Heifetz, and Henryk Szeryng. Prior to joining the New York Philharmonic, Mr. Dicterow served as Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Over the past few seasons Mr. Dicterow has been the featured soloist with the New York Philharmonic. Mr. Dicterow has also been a guest soloist with the symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. and around the world. He and his wife, violist Karen Dreyfus, are founding members of The Lyric Piano Quartet, which is in residence at Queens College. Recordings for EMI, CBS, Radiothon, BMG and Cala Records.
