The Cabinet to allocate BGN 200 mln for restoration of cultural sites
Yesterday, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov promised to grant the amount of BGN 200 mln to municipalities for the restoration of cultural sites. "We allocate large amounts of money (tens of millions) for the restoration of cultural monuments and billions for the reconstruction of the infrastructure," said the Prime Minister after signing the contract for the restoration of the ancient complex of Serdica in the capital.According to him, after some time, the citizens and guests of the capital will be very satisfied with the results. “They will be thankful because during the worst financial crisis we managed to build more than others could even imagine. We can show what we do. All this was buried here and now everyone can see it," said Prime Minister Borissov. He thanked the archaeologists and workers for the wonderful work they have done in the ancient complex. At the same time, the Prime Minister said that they should also be satisfied with the Government's funding, allowing the guild to achieve results unthinkable in the last 20 years.
"This is the difference between our Government and the Government 20 years ago or even before that – when the Central Department Store was built, when all these big buildings were erected. You see our attitude to our cultural heritage," stated the Prime Minister.
He assured that the Cabinet will continue to implement a consistent policy in this field. Borissov said that "the chief archaeologist of the republic" - the Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov had revealed a few days ago that two Roman emperors had been killed in Bulgaria.
Borissov said that BGN 1 bn is below the ground and Sofia will have the most beautiful underground in Europe. He said that "everyone who comes from abroad and sees it will respect our history and the way we were able to design and adorn the underground." He explained that underground trains will run 26 metres below the archaeological complex in order to preserve it.
