Households generate 500 kg of waste year each

A European household discards 513 kg of waste a year on average, a survey of Eurobarometer found. Nearly 60% of EU citizens, however, are not aware of this. They believe that their households generate too much garbage. The results of the survey also showed that most Europeans would like to see improved waste collection services.

According to 70% of EU citizens, garbage collection services should be improved for better waste management collection, but only 38% of them are willing to pay for the processing of garbage they dispose of. Europeans prefer the garbage fee to be paid on the basis of the quantity of discarded waste and the fee for waste treatment to be calculated in the price of the products they purchase rather than via the introduction of a separate tax.
