Euro Plus Pact criticised by President Georgi Parvanov

President Georgi Parvanov criticised yesterday the Government’s position on the Euro Plus Pact. The Head of State voiced his stance on a number of topical issues in an interview for the morning programme of bTV.
“A decision was made for the establishment of the Euro Plus Pact and Bulgaria joined it somehow, so to say, without realising how it happened – just by a decision of the Council of Ministers, without holding a meeting. If not a violation, we have at least a moral conflict with the Constitution in this case,” said Parvanov.

“My attitude towards this Pact is quite controversial. On the one hand, it should give incentives to countries like Bulgaria for the development of their competitiveness rather than only save countries facing bankruptcy. But if we help two countries that are on the brink of bankruptcy the question I ask is: Why is no one thinking about helping countries like Bulgaria?,” said Parvanov.
The President added that he was ready to convene the Consultative Council on National Security to discuss the economic and social security in our country.
