A total of BGN 70 mln to be allocated from the budget for tobacco growing

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food will demand some BGN 70 mln to be allocated from the budget in national additional payments for tobacco growing, revealed sources to Klassa. The proposal is for half of the money to be earmarked in May and the rest of it - after June.

The strategy for restructuring and development of tobacco processing in Bulgaria was adopted yesterday at a regular meeting of the Tobacco Advisory Council at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. A team from the Institute of Agricultural Economics drafted the document. The current situation and trends on the domestic and international tobacco market have been analysed. Appropriate measures will be implemented in disadvantaged areas, aimed at boosting tobacco growing and at developing alternative agricultural products. Minister Miroslav Naydenov will submit the document to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov as the basis for the allocation of money to tobacco growers.
