A total of BGN 50 mln to be invested in rehabilitation of residential buildings in 36 Bulgarian towns

“The BGN 50 mln rehabilitation project launched on Monday will support the repair works of multi-family residential buildings in 36 town centres, designed prior April 26, 1999. Windows will be replaced, outside walls and roofs will be insulated and inside installations will be repaired,” announced Desislava Yordanova, Director of Housing Policies at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, quoted by BTA.

At least 170-200 buildings will be renovated with this pilot project, while a total of 720,000 homes in our country need reconstruction. “Public European and national resources will for the first time reach directly Bulgarians’ homes through this project,” commented Deputy Minister of Regional Development Nikolay Nankov. According to him, 50% co-financing from public resources, which is the highest in Europe, has been provided for the implementation of the project.

Only buildings with stable structure will be eligible for funding. Highly-qualified experts will make technical inspections and will prepare technical passports and energy audits of the buildings, approved for rehabilitation under the project. “In case the building needs structural reinforcement, it will be entirely at the expense of the owner,” warned Desislava Yordanova.

“The rehabilitation of multi-family residential buildings implemented by their owners that meets the minimum energy class requirements will be preserved and the money invested by the citizens will be deducted from the due amount for co-financing of the respective owner’s share,” added Nankov.

“A resource of BGN 13 mln will be used to support the owners with low-interest loans or bank guarantees, if necessary” said Denitsa Nikolova, Head of the Managing Authority of Operational Programme Regional Development 2007-2013.
